“A window to our past; a door to our future” was the theme chosen by the leaders and residents of the Village of Hobart Centennial Centre Master Plan. The project goal was to create a town center in the heart of a largely rural township that would capture the benefits of a new highway interchange and substantial public ownership. The guiding principles, which evolved through extensive community input, included an eco-friendly design approach, connectivity and walkability, human scale, a mix of uses and an old world look and feel. The resulting plan presents a unified design theme, flexible land uses, preservation of on-site wetlands and a comprehensive stormwater management plan addressing the site’s relatively level topography.
In 2010, Phase I infrastructure was installed and several new developments are under construction.
